Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the engine protection shield. Refer to Engine Protection Shield Replacement .
  2. Place a drain pan under the vehicle in order to catch any power steering fluid.
  3. Notice: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe (15) and the flare nut from the power steering pump.
  5. Remove and discard the O-ring (3) from the high pressure port on the pump.
  6. Remove the 2 bolts that retain the inlet pipe to the engine bracket.
  7. Remove the 1 bolt that retains the inlet pipe to the frame.
  8. Remove the inlet pipe and the flare nut from the power steering gear.
  9. Remove and discard the O-ring (1) from the steering gear inlet port.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Apply GM Goodwrench Automatic Transmission Fluid DEXRON®-III, GM P/N 12378470, or the equivalent ATF, in order to lubricate a NEW O-ring (1) for the inlet port on the power steering gear.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe and the NEW O-ring to the steering gear.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the flare nut to 36 N·m (27 lb ft).

  5. Apply GM Goodwrench Automatic Transmission Fluid DEXRON®-III, GM P/N 12378470, or the equivalent ATF, in order to lubricate a NEW O-ring (3) for the high pressure port on the pump.
  6. Install the gear inlet pipe and a NEW O-ring to the power steering pump.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the flare nut to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  8. Install the bolt in order to retain the inlet pipe to the frame.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 6.5 N·m (57.5 lb in).

  10. Install the 2 bolts in order to retain the inlet pipe to the engine bracket.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the 2 bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

    Notice: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Notice in the Preface section.

  12. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  13. Notice: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Notice in the Preface section.

  14. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  15. Install the engine protection shield. Refer to Engine Protection Shield Replacement .
