Removal Procedure

  1. Clean the following components:
  2. • The brake fluid reservoir cap (2)
    • The master cylinder reservoir (1)
    • The master cylinder (8)
  3. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to lift the connector security clip on the brake fluid level switch connector.
  4. Disconnect the brake fluid level switch connector.
  5. Place a container below the master cylinder in order to catch the brake fluid.
  6. Remove the reservoir cap.
  7. Remove the cap seal.
  8. Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Caution in the Preface section.

    Notice: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice in the Preface section.

  9. Remove the brake fluid with the syringe.
  10. Remove the 2 screws (6,7) that retain the reservoir to the master cylinder.
  11. Hold the master cylinder.
  12. Remove the reservoir from the master cylinder.
  13. Remove the 2 sealing grommets (4,5).

Installation Procedure

    Caution: Refer to DOT 4 Brake Fluid Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Lubricate the 2 sealing grommets (4,5) with GM Vehicle Care® Brake and Clutch Fluid Super DOT-4, GM P/N 88958860, or the equivalent DOT-4 brake fluid.
  2. Install the 2 sealing grommets to the master cylinder (8).
  3. Install the reservoir (1) to the master cylinder.
  4. Ensure the reservoir screw holes align with the master cylinder screw holes.
  5. Install the 2 screws (6,7).
  6. Notice: When adding fluid to the brake fluid reservoir or to the clutch fluid reservoir, use only Super DOT-4 or equivalent DOT-4 brake fluid from a clean, sealed container. This polyglycol brake fluid is hygroscopic and absorbs moisture. Do not use fluid from an open container that may be contaminated with water. Improper or contaminated fluid could result in damage to the system components.

  7. Fill the reservoir with GM Vehicle Care® Brake and Clutch Fluid Super DOT-4, GM P/N 88958860, or the equivalent DOT-4 brake fluid. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling.
  8. Install the cap seal (3).
  9. Install the cap (2).
  10. Remove the container from below the master cylinder.
  11. Inspect the master cylinder for fluid leakage.
  12. Connect the brake fluid level switch connector.
  13. Install the connector security clip on the brake fluid level switch connector.
