Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Important: In the event deployment has occurred, inspect the steering wheel module coil wire for any sign of scorching, melting, or other damage due to excessive heat. If the coil is damaged, replace it.

  3. Place the front wheels in the straight ahead position.
  4. Remove the steering wheel from the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  5. Remove the knee bolster from the instrument panel (I/P). Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  6. Remove the steering column trim covers from the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.

  7. Object Number: 1344332  Size: SH
  8. Release the 2 top locking tangs (2) on the steering wheel module coil (1) by lifting upward on the tangs (2) and pulling slightly outward on the steering wheel module coil (1).
  9. Release the 2 bottom locking tangs (2) and remove the steering wheel module coil (1).

Installation Procedure

  1. Ensure the front wheels are in the straight ahead position.
  2. Center the steering wheel module coil, if necessary. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Centering in Steering Wheel and Column.

  3. Object Number: 1344332  Size: SH
  4. Install the steering wheel module coil (1), align the lower locating pins on the steering wheel module coil with the matching holes in the switch housing, then engage all 4 retaining tangs (2).
  5. Install the steering column trim covers on the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  6. Center the steering wheel module coil, if necessary. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Centering in Steering Wheel and Column.
  7. Install the knee bolster. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  8. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
