J 45059 Angle Meter

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Brake fluid may irritate eyes and skin. In case of contact, take the following actions:

       • Eye contact--rinse thoroughly with water.
       • Skin contact--wash with soap and water.
       • If ingested--consult a physician immediately.

    Notice: Brake fluid will damage electrical connections and painted surfaces. Use shop cloths, suitable containers, and fender covers to prevent brake fluid from contacting these areas. Always re-seal and wipe off brake fluid containers to prevent spills.

  1. Use a siphon in order to remove half of the brake fluid from the reservoir.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  4. If you are replacing the caliper, complete the following steps:

    4.1. Place a container below the brake hose (3) in order to catch the brake fluid.
    4.2. Remove the front brake hose fitting (4) and the 2 washers (2,5) from the caliper.
    4.3. Plug the brake hose in order to prevent brake fluid loss or contamination.
    4.4. Discard the 2 washers.
  6. Remove and discard the 2 bolts (6,8) and the 2 washers (7,9) from the front caliper bracket.
  7. Remove the caliper and the bracket from the brake rotor.

Inspection Procedure

  1. Inspect the disc brake hardware. Repair or replace parts as necessary. Refer to Front Disc Brake Mounting and Hardware Inspection .
  2. Inspect the caliper. Repair or replace parts as necessary. Refer to Brake Caliper Inspection .

Installation Procedure

  1. Ensure the mounting surfaces on the caliper bracket are clean.
  2. Ensure the caliper pistons are fully seated in the cylinder bores.
  3. Position the caliper and the bracket over the rotor.
  4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Install 2 NEW bolts (6,8) and 2 NEW washers (7,9) to the caliper bracket.
  6. Tighten

    1. Tighten the bolts to 70 N·m (52 lb ft).
    2. Use the J 45059 in order to tighten the bolts an additional 90 degrees.
  7. If you replaced the caliper, complete the following steps:
  8. 5.1. Remove the plug from the brake hose (3).
    5.2. Install 2 NEW washers (2,5) to the brake hose.
    5.3. Install the brake hose to the caliper.
    5.4. Install the brake hose fitting (4).

    Tighten

    1. Tighten the fitting to 13 N·m (115 lb in).
    2. Use the J 45059 in order to tighten the fitting an additional 90 degrees.
  9. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Fill the master cylinder reservoir. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling .
  12. With the engine OFF, gradually apply and release the brake pedal several times in order to position the caliper pistons and the brake pads.
  13. If you installed the brake hose fitting, bleed the brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
