Schematic Reference: Headlights/Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Schematics

Did you review the Lighting System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Verify that the daytime running lamps (DRL) are inoperative.

Does the system operate normally?

Go to Testing for Electrical Intermittents in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Using a Tech 2, command the DRL indicator ON.

Did the DRL indicator turn ON?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 12

Using a Tech 2, command the DRL system ON.

Did the DRL turn ON?

Go to Step 11

  1. Remove the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  2. Using a fused jumper wire, connect the DRL relay ground signal circuit to a known good ground.

Did the headlamps turn ON?

Go to Step 11

  1. Remove the DRL relay.
  2. Using a digital multimeter (DMM), check continuity of the DRL relay ground signal circuit between the instrument cluster and the DRL relay. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

With the relay still removed, check for battery positive voltage at the DRL relay supply voltage circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

With the relay still removed, check for ground at the DRL relay ground circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and complete the repair?

Go to Step 14

With the relay still removed, using a fused jumper wire, connect the DRL relay ground circuit and the headlamp ground circuit at the DRL relay.

Did the headlamps turn ON?

Go to Step 13

Repair the headlamp ground circuit between the DRL relay and the headlamp ground. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 14

  1. Remove the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  2. Inspect the parking brake ground circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
