Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.

  3. Object Number: 1343043  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the I/P module connector (2).
  5. Remove the I/P module retaining nuts (3).
  6. Remove the I/P module retaining bolts (4).
  7. Remove the inflatable restraint I/P module (1).
  8. Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the inflatable restraint I/P module (1).
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the I/P module retaining nuts (3).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten fasteners to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

  5. Install the I/P module retaining bolts (4).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten fasteners to 9.5 N·m (84 lb in).

  7. Connect the I/P module connector (2).
  8. Install the I/P trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
