The cruise control system is integrated with the engine control module (ECM) through the powertrain interface module (PIM), to control the electronic throttle actuator and maintain the vehicle at the speed set by the driver. The main components of the electronic cruise control system are: ยท
• | PIM |
• | Body control module (BCM) |
• | Engine control module (ECM) |
• | Instrument cluster assembly |
• | Throttle actuator assembly |
• | Cruise control switch assembly (incorporated into the turn signal switch assembly) |
• | Clutch pedal position switch assembly |
• | Stop lamp and BTSI switch assembly |
• | Cruise control release and extended brake travel switch assembly |
• | Electrical wiring (incorporated into the main wiring harness) |
The powertrain interface module (PIM) is located on the instrument panel driver's outer bracket. The purpose of the PIM is to act as an interface between the drivetrain serial data bus (CAN Bus protocol) and the body side data bus (UART Bus protocol).
The body control module (BCM) is mounted horizontally beneath the instrument panel compartment. Its function is to control the body side (UART Bus protocol) of the vehicles data bus.
The engine control module (ECM) is located in the engine bay above the left-hand suspension strut tower. The role of the ECM is to receive all the inputs from various sensors (vehicle speed sessor (VSS) etc.) and switches to manage the engine.
The instrument cluster assembly displays vehicle speed and engine revolutions per minute (RPM) as well as other information through its multifunction display and warning indicators.
The throttle actuator assembly is located on the front of the inlet manifold. The throttle actuator assembly receives signals from the engine control module (ECM) and controls the angle of the throttle plate.
The cruise control switch assembly is carry over from MY 2004 Pontiac GTO. The wiring for the switch and its routing has changed. Refer to Wiring Diagram for wiring details and Fuses, Relays and Wiring Harnesses for the routing.
The clutch pedal switch assembly carries over from the MY 2004 Pontiac GTO clutch pedal switch in location and function, however the wiring for the clutch pedal switch assembly has changed for the cruise control aspect. Refer to Wiring Diagram for information regarding the clutch pedal switch assembly's wiring.
The stop lamp and BTSI switch assembly is new for MY 2005 Pontiac GTO. The functionality of the switch however, remains the same as MY 2004 Pontiac GTO.
The cruise control release and extended brake travel switch assembly is new for MY 2005 Pontiac GTO. The functionality of the switch, however, remains the same as MY 2004 Pontiac GTO.
