Removal Procedure
  1. Move the intake air duct away from the pump. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  2. Remove the engine accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory .
  3. Place a drain pan below the vehicle and remove the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement .

    4. Notice: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Remove the power steering gear inlet pipe and the flare nut from the pump.
  5. Remove and discard the O-ring from the high pressure port on the pump.
  6. Loosen the hose clamp on the reservoir outlet hose.
  7. Remove the reservoir outlet hose from the pump.

  8. Remove the 2 bolts (5,6) from the pump (1).
  9. Remove the pump from the mounting bracket (2).

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1548138 Size: SH
  1. Install the power steering pump (1) to the mounting bracket (2).

    2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  2. Install the 2 bolts (5,6) in order to retain the pump to the bracket.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the 2 bolts to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  3. Apply GM Goodwrench Automatic Transmission Fluid DEXRON®-III, GM P/N 12378470, or the equivalent ATF, in order to lubricate a NEW O-ring for the high pressure port.
  4. Install the O-ring to the power steering gear inlet pipe.

    5. Notice: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Notice in the Preface section.

    Important: Ensure the threads on the flare nut engage the threads in the high pressure port with at least 2 turns of the flare nut.

  5. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe and the NEW O-ring to the high pressure port on the pump.
  6. Tighten the flare nut.

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the flare nut to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  7. Install the reservoir outlet hose to the pump. Install the hose clamp.
  8. Install the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement .
  9. Install the engine accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory .
  10. Install the intake components. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  11. Remove the drain pan.

    12. Notice: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Notice in the Preface section.

  12. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .

    13. Notice: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Notice in the Preface section.

  13. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
