Intermittent Airbag Lamp On with No DTCs - keywords coil SDM SIR

The PI was updated with the repair for intermittent airbag lamp coming on with no DTCs. Please discard PIC3883.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

The airbag lamp on with no DTCs. The concern may be current or intermittent.

If the airbag lamp is on and there are no DTCs, the SIR data display will indicate that the airbag lamp is being commanded on by the SDM. Even though no DTCs are displayed, if you clear DTCs in the SDM, the lamp should turn off after the IPC bulb check. The SIR coil has been identified as causing the concern. Replace the SIR coil per the repair instructions in SI. If the customer reports the airbag light comes on intermittently and there are no DTCs in history also replace the SIR coil per the repair instructions in SI.

Note: If the airbag lamp is on and there are current or history DTCs, follow the published diagnosis.

Note: Replacing the SDM will not resolve this concern.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
