This PI was superseded to correct system error. Please discard PIP4421.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

A dealer may encounter a whistle or whine type noise at idle. This will only occur if a 6.0L LS2 engine has been replaced.

Replacement LS2 engines will be shipped with a new oil pan. The oil pan will have a Oil Pressure Relief Valve in the pan. This relief valve is only utilized on AFM (active fuel management) applications.

Recommendation/Instructions:

During the installation of a LS2 engine re-use the oil pan(no AFM relief valve) from the original engine.

If the oil pan can NOT be re-used, remove the relief valve and plug the relief valve hole.

The plug size is M14 x 1.5 serviced with GMSPO part number 11561583.

Torque the plug to 21 lb ft (28 Nm).

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
