DOOR WATER DEFLECTOR SERVICE PROCEDURE

VEHICLES AFFECTED 1987-88 GRAND AM -----------------

The following information should be added to Section 5F in the 1987 Service Manual. This same statement will appear in the 1988 Service Manual.

"When working on any door component which requires partial or complete removal of the water deflector, any damage caused to the water deflector or any original holes in the deflector which do not line up with fastener locations in the door inner panel or if the adhesive loses it's effectiveness, it must be repaired by applying waterproof tape to the affected area of the water deflector prior to installing the door trim panel. This is essential to prevent water entry into the passenger compartment and to maintain original sealing integrity."

Leaks past the water deflector can be difficult to locate as they only appear in the foot well area of the car. Be sure to check the lower edge of the door trim panels during water test when checking for unexplained water accumulation in the floor pan area.
