PARTS RETURN PROGRAM ON ENGINE WATER PUMPS AND SERPENTINE BELT TENSIONER BRACKETS
1988 GRAND AM WITH QUAD 4 (LD2) ENGINE (VIN CODE D)
Engineering is interested in having Quad 4 (LD2) engine water pumps and serpentine belt tensioner bracket assemblies returned. This Parts Return Program will end August 31, 1988.
When a dealer diagnoses a failed water pump or Gen./A/C tensioner bracket on a Quad 4 engine equipped car, the failed part should be replaced with a part from the dealer's parts inventory. The GMSPO box containing the new part is a "special" box which should be used to return the failed part. Inside the parts box is a return shipping label and an information return tag. Place the shipping label on the outside of the box, fill out the information tag and attach it to the failed part and return the part via U.P.S. to the Delta Engine Plant address on the label. See Figure 1.
The normal warranty labor operation number and labor time should be used to submit a warranty claim. U.P.S. charges should be included as sublet on the warranty claim.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
