EXHAUST PIPE TO MANIFOLD SEAL SQUEAK-INSTALL NEW SEAL

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1987-89 J, N AND T WITH 2.0L VIN CODE K OR M

CONDITION:

Subject models may exhibit an exhaust pipe to exhaust manifold seal squeak most noticeable at idle, or during slow speed driving maneuvers.

CAUSE:

The cause of this condition is a result of normal movement of the exhaust pipe to exhaust manifold seal joint. This movement may emit an audible squeak.

CORRECTION:

This condition can be corrected by installing a new exhaust pipe to manifold seal. The new seal incorporates a material which will greatly minimize if not eliminate the squeak. Refer to the following part number list.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
