WARRANTY CLAIM: REVISED LABOR TIME ALLOWANCE FOR CAMS

Subject: REVISED LABOR TIME ALLOWANCES FOR CAMS

Effective immediately, the time allowances for the CAMS Diagnosis Labor operation have been revised. The attached chart details these updates. Dealers may submit warranty claims for this diagnostic time whenever they utilize the CAMS unit in the performance of driveability repairs and the vehicle is still within the time/mileage limits of the Emission Warranty.

To submit for the diagnostic allowance, a separate claim line must be entered using labor operation J9997 and the appropriate time allowance. This must be submitted in addition to the claim line describing the driveability repair that corrected the cause of the customer's complaint.

A claim for the CAMS diagnostic time should not be submitted unless all of the following conditions are met:

1. The dealer has a CAMS unit with a Pontiac Accessory Kit.

2. The vehicle has not exceeded the time/mileage limits of the Emission Warranty.

3. The CAMS unit was connected to the vehicle and a printout of results is attached to the scrapping copy of the repair order.

4. The repair performed to correct the cause of the owner's complaint is covered by the Emission Warranty.

5. A claim for the driveability repair performed is submitted in conjunction witli the claim for diagnostic time.

The CAMS printout will list the diagnostic operations performed and the proper time allowance, in addition to the actual time the technician spent on the vehicle. The CAMS unit also will instruct the dealer to attach a copy of the printout to the hard copy of the repair order. Dealers should disregard these instructions and, instead, ATTACH THE PRINTOUT TO THE SCRAPPING COPY OF THE REPAIR ORDER.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
