NEW CAMSHAFT SPROCKET/WRENCH DESIGN - INFORMATION

SUBJECT: NEW CAMSHAFT SPROCKET AND CAMSHAFT SPROCKET WRENCH DESIGN

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1992 L,N CARS WITH 2.3L ENGINE (VIN A,D,3) CHEVROLET CORSICA, BERETTA, PONTIAC GRAND AM OLDSMOBILE ACHIEVA BUICK SKYLARK

SERVICE INFORMATION:

Later production 1992 2.3L engines (VIN A,D,3/RPO LG0,LD2,L40) have a powdered metal design camshaft sprocket. To service the new camshaft sprocket requires the camshaft sprocket wrench J 39579. The camshaft sprocket wrench J-39579 is used in the same manner as the previous design, J-36013. Refer to the Figure 1 for new sprocket and tool design.

The camshaft sprocket wrench J-39579 will be delivered to dealers in September 1992.

When servicing an early 1992 production camshaft sprocket, replace it with the new designed camshaft sprocket, GM P/N 24570973.
