FRONT DOOR MANUAL WINDOWS HARD TO CYCLE/ROLL/SEAL

SUBJECT: FRONT DOOR MANUAL WINDOWS HARD TO CYCLE/ROLL/SEAL (REPLACE RUN CHANNEL ASSEMBLY/REGULATOR AND ADJUST)

MODELS AFFECTED: 1992 GRAND AM MODELS

THIS BULLETIN IS BEING REVISED TO UPDATE THE 1992-93 GRAND AM MODEL SERVICE MANUAL SECTION 10-6 FRONT DOOR WINDOW ADJUST. THIS BULLETIN IS ALSO BEING REVISED TO ADD THE 1993 MODEL YEAR TO THE "UPDATE" STATEMENT REGARDING SERVICE MANUAL SECTION 10-6- - FRONT DOOR WINDOW ADJUST. PLEASE DISCARD BULLETIN 92-10-71 ISSUED 1/93.

CONDITION:

--------- Some owners of 1992 Grand Am models may comment on the following front door window conditions:

- hard to cycle

- do not roll up properly

- do not seal properly

- disengage from the run channel.

CAUSE:

----- Insufficient channel depth at front lower area of run channel and/or mis-adjusted window resulting in window disengaging from run channel and possibly damaging window regulator.

CORRECTION:

---------- Replace front door window run channel assembly, and if damaged, replace window regulator. Adjust window accordingly.

A. Replace front door window run channel assembly with new replacement part according to procedure in SECTION 10-6 of the 1992-93 Grand Am Service Manual.

B. If front door window regulator is damaged, replace according to procedure in SECTION 10-6 of the 1992-93 Grand Am Service Manual.

C. Adjust front door window using the following procedure:

1. Remove door trim panel and water deflector according to SECTION 10-6 of the 1992-93 Grand Am Service Manual.

2. Move top of window assembly (2) 102mm to 152mm (4 to 6 inches) away from front door header.

3. Loosen inner panel cam screws (4).

4. Loosen front lower run channel attachment screw (5).

5. Adjust cam (3) to fully seat window into rear run channel.

6. Tighten inner panel cam screws (4) to 10.b N.m (89 lbs. in.).

7. Move window assembly (2) downward until top is 51 mm (2 inches) above bottom of window opening.

Important: When operating window, do not contact down stop bumper prior to tightening front channel attachment screw to prevent mis-location of window assembly.

8. Grasp front channel guide above screw (5) to keep retainer from twisting while fully seating front channel (1) on window (2). Refer to SECTION A-A.

9. Tighten front channel screw (5) to 10.0 N.m (89 lbs. in.).

10. Cycle window assembly up and down twice to check for proper operation, seating and sealing of window.

11. Repeat adjustment procedure if necessary.

12. Return window to full upward position.

13. Install water deflector and door trim panel.

Labor Time: 2 door/4 door = 0.8 hour

If replacing window regulator, add 0.3 hour.
