INTERMITTENT HORN BLOWINGWHEN CAR IS COLD

SUBJECT: INTERMITTENT HORN BLOWING WHEN CAR IS COLD (REPLACE CONTACT ASSEMBLY/VINYL PAD). VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1989-93 "J" MODEL AND 1992-93 "N" MODEL

THIS BULLETING SUPERSEDES AND REPLACES CORPORATE BULLETIN REFERENCE NUMBER 333202**. THIS BULLETIN IS BEING REVISED TO CHANGE CONTACT ASSEMBLY PART NUMBER 15753782 TO 16753782.

CONDITION:

--------- Some owners of 1989-93 "J" vehicles and 1992-93 "N" vehicles may experience intermittent horn blowing when car is cold.

CAUSE:

----- This condition may be caused by excessive shrinkage of the contact assembly components when cold. This forces the horn pad contact plates together which activates the horn.

CORRECTION:

---------- Install new parts according to explanation below:

On 1992 "N" Models without leather steering wheel and 1989-93 "J" models, the vinyl pads cannot be assembled with redesigned contact assemblies. Therefore, replace with P/N 16753782 (Contact assembly) and P/N 16753781 (Vinyl pad) for these models.

On 1993 "N" cars, only replacement of the contact assembly is necessary.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
