Removal Procedure

J 24319-01 Universal Steering Linkage Puller


    Object Number: 509828  Size: SH
  1. Remove the cotter pin (3) and the hex slotted nut (2) from the outer tie rod ball stud (1).
  2. Loosen the outer tie rod pinch bolts (5).
  3. Use J 24319-01 in order to remove the outer tie rod (1) from the steering knuckle (4).
  4. Remove the outer tie rod (1) from the tie rod adjuster (6).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the outer tie rod (1) to the tie rod adjuster (6).
  2. Install the outer tie rod ball stud (1) to the steering knuckle (4).
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the hex slotted nut (2) to the tie rod ball stud (1).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the hex slotted nut to 50-75 N·m (35-50 lb ft).

  6. Install the cotter pin (3) to the hole in the tie rod ball stud (1).
  7. Adjust the toe by turning the tie rod adjuster (6). Refer to Wheel Alignment Specifications in Wheel Alignment.
  8. Tighten the outer tie rod pinch bolts (5).
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the outer tie rod pinch bolts to 55 N·m (41 lb ft).
