Causes

Noise in the Steering Column

    • The upper bearing is not seated in the housing
    • Loose column covers
    • A loose intermediate shaft
    • An unlubricated horn contact ring
    • Lack of grease on the bearings
    • A worn or a broken bushing assembly on the jacket of the lower steering column
    • A worn or a broken steering wheel position sensor (on vehicles equipped with variable effort steering)
    • An unseated snap ring on the shaft lock
    • A damaged foam seal in the bushing assembly on the jacket of the lower steering column
    • A damaged foam seal in the steering wheel position sensor (on vehicles equipped with variably effort steering)
    • An unseated SIR coil C-ring
    • The lower steering column bushing has rough edges on the spring fingers
