Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 386173 Size: SH

    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the two screws from the inflator module.
  3. Pull the inflator module forward in order to disconnect the electrical connector.
  4. Remove the inflator module.
  5. Remove the radio control switch connector from the wire protector plate by using a screwdriver to slide the connector off the plate.
  6. Remove the four screws and the wire protector plate (Buick only).
  7. Remove the two screws from the steering wheel radio control switch.
  8. Remove the steering wheel radio control switch from the inflator module.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 386169 Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the radio control switch to the inflator module with the two screws.

    2. Tighten
    Tighten the radio control switch screws to 1 N·m (9 lb in).

  2. Install the wire protector plate with the four screws (Buick only).
  3. Install the radio control switch connector to the wire protector plate.
  4. Connect the electrical connector to the inflator module.
  5. Install the inflator module with the two screws.

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the inflator module screws to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
