Hood Primary and Secondary Latch Replacement Oldsmobile

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the hood latch release cable from the hood latch. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 383981  Size: SH
  3. Remove the hood latch bolts (3).
  4. Remove the hood latch (4).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 383981  Size: SH
  1. Install the hood latch (4).
  2. Install the hood latch bolts (3).
  3. Hand tighten the bolts.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Inspect the hood latch to hood latch striker alignment.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  6. Connect the hood latch release cable to the hood latch. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Replacement .
  7. Inspect the following components:
  8. • The hood latch for correct alignment
    • The secondary hood latch for correct operation
    • The primary hood latch for correct operation

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the hood latch release cable from the hood latch. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 383985  Size: SH
  3. Remove the hood latch bolt (2).
  4. Remove the hood latch (3).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 383985  Size: SH
  1. Install the hood latch (3).
  2. Install the hood latch bolt (2).
  3. Hand tighten the bolt.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.   5. Tighten

    • The secondary hood latch for correct operation
    • The primary hood latch for correct operation
