GM Service Manual Online
For 1990-2009 cars only

The information in this section provides the body service procedures that apply to the front doors, the center pillar and the rear doors.

All the door hardware production attaching screws contain an expoxy thread-locking compound to insure that the minimum original torque setting will be maintained. Service attaching screws may not contain a thread-locking compound. To prevent loosening of the service screws or to renew the thread-locking characteristics of the production screws, the threads of the fasteners can be treated with GM P/N 12345493 (or equivalent) which is applied to the hardware attachment as a liquid. Upon installation and tightening, the adhesive cures to bond the attachment as a liquid. Upon installation and tightening, the adhesive cures in order to bond the attachment and to prevent loosening or backing out. The adhesive bond does not prevent future attachment removal if required.

The mechanical components of the door assembly are lubricated during assembly. If additional lubrication is required, use the following lubricants:

    • All body key lock cylinders should be lubricated with Multi-Purpose Lubricant GM P/N 12345120 or Synthetic SAE 5W30 engine oil.
    • Door hinge pins and rollers should be lubricated at normal service intervals with 30 weight engine oil.
    • The remainder of the door hardware mechanisms except lock assemblies can be lubricated with GM P/N 1052349, Lubriplate Spray-lube A or equivalent.
    • Lubricate the lock assemblies with GM P/N 1052196, Lubriplate Auto-lube A or equivalent.
