Removal Procedure

Notice: This sunroof system is timed from the factory so that the sunroof actuator automatically shuts off when the window panel reaches a certain position. Be careful not to disrupt this factory timing when removing the sunroof actuator from the sunroof module. Disrupting the factory timing may cause damage to the sunroof system. Close the window panel whenever you remove the sunroof actuator from the sunroof module assembly.

  1. Position the sunroof in the fully closed position.
  2. Remove the windshield upper garnish moldings. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Upper in Interior Trim

  4. Remove the sunshades (2). Refer to Sunroof Sunshade Replacement .
  5. Remove the sunroof control switch. Refer to Sunroof Switch Replacement .
  6. Remove the rail front assist handle. Refer to Assist Handle Replacement in Interior Trim.

  8. Remove the sunroof opening trim lace (1). Refer to Sunroof Opening Trim Finish Lace Replacement .
  9. Remove the lower headlining trim finish panel as required.
  10. Remove the wire harness connectors from the sunroof motor (7).
  11. If the sunroof window (13) is not fully closed, perform the following procedure:
  12. 9.1. Locate an Allen head screw on the drive gear of the motor (7).
    9.2. If necessary, use a small flat blade screwdriver in order to remove the red retainer surrounding this screw.
    9.3. Using the appropriate size Allen wrench, turn the screw until the glass is fully closed. A significant amount of force may be required.
    9.4. After the glass is fully closed, back the screw off approximately 15 degrees.
  13. Remove the sunroof motor bracket bolts.
  14. Remove the sunroof motor (7).

  16. Before installing a new motor or re-installing the old motor, verify that the motor is timed to the closed position. Align the hole in the gear with the centerline, as shown in the illustration.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the sunroof motor (7).
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the sunroof motor bracket bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the sunroof motor bracket bolt to fully drive and seat, but not strip.

  5. Install the wire harness connectors to the sunroof motor (7).

  7. Install the sunroof opening trim lace (1). Refer to Sunroof Opening Trim Finish Lace Replacement .
  8. Install the rail front assist handle. Refer to Assist Handle Replacement in Interior Trim.
  9. Install the sunroof control switch. Refer to Sunroof Switch Replacement .
  10. Install the sunshades (2). Refer to Sunroof Sunshade Replacement .
  11. Install the windshield side upper garnish moldings. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Upper .
