Subject:Run Channel(s) Loose to the Door Frame (Replace Run Channel)

Models:1999 Oldsmobile Alero
1999 Pontiac Grand Am
Built Prior to 11/16/98

Condition

Some customers may comment that the run channel is loose or gaps to the door frame.

Cause

This condition may be due to material in the run channel which causes it to shrink in hot weather.

Correction

For the front doors, replace the run channel, as shown in the Doors sub-section of the Service Manual.

For the rear doors, follow the procedure shown below:

  1. Remove the door trim panel.
  2. Remove the partial water deflector to gain access to the upper window run channel.
  3. Raise the window to the full up position.
  4. Remove the lower run channel bolt.
  5. Lower the window full down.
  6. Remove the run channel.
  7. Important: During the assembly, make certain the foam bead is in the run channel retainer. The foam bead could be stuck to the outboard side of the run channel. This foam should be reinstalled into the molding, starting at the module clip hole downward. See Figure 1.
