Inspect the engine mounting fasteners.

Are the engine mounting fasteners loose or tightened out of sequence?

Tighten the engine mounting fasteners to the specified torque. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications in Engine Mechanical - 2.4L.

Does the clutch still grab?

Check for a damaged engine mount. Is the engine mount damaged?

Replace the engine mount. Refer to Engine Mount Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 2.4L.

Check the clutch disc plate for burned or smeared resin.

Is there burned or smeared resin on the disc plate?

If the burns or smears are superficial, clean or sand off the excess resin. If the disc plate is burned or has heat checked parts, then replace the disc plate. Refer to Clutch Pressure and Driven Plate Replacement .

Is the disc plate warped?

Replace the clutch disc plate. Ensure that runout does not exceed the amount given in the value column. Refer to Clutch Pressure and Driven Plate Replacement .

1.25 mm (0.05 in)

Check for oil on the clutch disc plate facing or a burned or glazed facing.

Install a new clutch disc plate and correct the leak at the source. Refer to Engine Mechanical and to Clutch Pressure and Driven Plate Replacement .

Check for worn splines on the transmission main drive gear.

Are there worn splines on the transmission main drive gear?

Replace the transmission main drive gear. Refer to Manual Transmission.

Inspect the release bearing at the transmission main drive gear.

Is the release bearing binding on the retaining tube on the transmission main drive gear?
