Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

Verify the fault is present.

Does the system operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a test lamp, backprobe between the battery positive voltage circuit (1440) and a known good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 4

With a test lamp, backprobe between the battery positive voltage circuit and the ground circuit.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 7

With a test lamp, backprobe between the ignition 0 voltage circuit and a known good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

Repair the open or short to ground in the Ignition 0 voltage circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 11

Repair the open in the ground circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or short to ground in the battery positive voltage circuit. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test for an open or short to ground in the battery positive voltage feed to the BCM (CKT 1540).

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 11

Replace the instrument cluster.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
