Subject: | Door Check Link, Door Shell, Window Regulator, Center Pillar Replacement |
Models: | 1999-2001 Oldsmobile Alero |
1999-2001 Pontiac Grand Am |
As of early January 2001, a new rear door check link was put into production. Refer to the table below when replacing parts.
Important: If the regulator stop is not removed on cars with the 1st design check link, the window will not travel down as far on the side with the stop as on the other side. If the stop is removed on cars with the 2nd design check link, the door glass will interfere with the check link and glass breakage may occur.
When Replacing These Parts | Replace Or Modify These Parts | |
---|---|---|
| Vehicles with 1st design check link | Vehicles with 2nd design check link |
"B" Pillar (Only 2nd Design "B" pillar will be serviced) | Rear Door Re-use check link Modify door to accept check link | -- |
Window Regulator | Remove Window regulator stop | Use regulator as is |
• | The 1st design check link is above the door jam switch. |
• | The 2nd design check link is below the door jam switch. |
• | The new check link has a torsion spring built-in which creates an interference with the glass. This condition is remedied by the use of a riveted down stop 76 mm (3 in) up from the bottom of the window guide channel. The window down stop is sold as part of the window regulator. ONLY ONE window regulator (with window down stop) will be made available. The window down stop must be removed when replacing regulators on first design vehicles. |
• | Using a new style check link in vehicles that do not have a window down stop will likely cause glass breakage. |
• | When replacing the door shell on first design vehicles, use the first design door with old style check link. If regulator replacement is needed, the window guide channel stop must be removed to increase glass travel to match the other side of the vehicle. |
• | When replacing the center pillar on first design vehicles, use the second design door together with the old style check link. The second design door mounting holes will have to be elongated in order for the check link to fit. |
• | When replacing any of the above mentioned parts on vehicles built after January 01, use the second design door and the new style check link. |
