Important: Be advised to repair one rear drum brake shoe assembly at a time. This
enables you to use the other drum brake shoe assembly for visual reference.
Remove the adjuster spring.
Use the J 38400
to spread the top of the brake shoes
to remove the adjuster assembly (1) and the adjuster lever from the
secondary brake shoe.
Position the hook end
of the J 38400
under
the universal spring and lightly pull the universal spring end (2)
out of the secondary shoe web hole. Hold the universal spring while removing
the secondary brake shoe.
Position the hook end
of the J 38400
under
the universal spring and lightly pull the universal spring end (2)
out of the primary shoe web hole. Hold the universal spring while removing
the primary brake shoe (1).
Disconnect the park brake lever from the primary brake shoe by
removing the retaining clip.
Connect the park brake lever to the primary brake shoe and install
the retaining clip.
Position the hook end
of the J 38400
under
the universal spring and lightly pull the universal spring end (2)
out while installing the primary shoe. Ensure that the universal spring properly
engages the primary brake shoe web hole.
Position the hook end
of the J 38400
under
the universal spring and lightly pull the universal spring end (2)
out while installing the secondary shoe. Ensure that the universal spring
engages the secondary brake shoe web hole.
Use the J 38400
to spread the top of the brake shoes
to install the adjuster assembly (1) and the adjuster lever to the
secondary brake shoe.
