Removal Procedure
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Drain the oil.
- Remove the oil filter.
- Verify that the gasket is removed with the filter.
- Remove the oil filter adapter.
Important: Do not pry against the threads in the oil
filter bypass hole when removing the bypass valve.
- Remove the oil filter bypass valve using a screwdriver or a punch in order
to pry the valve out.
- Clean the oil filter mounting surface.
Installation Procedure
- Install the oil filter bypass valve. Seat
the valve using a socket of the same diameter and a mallet.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the oil filter adapter.
Tighten
Tighten the adapter to 39 N·m (29 lb ft).
- Set the gasket in place and install the
filter. Turn the filter ¾-1 complete turn after the gasket
contacts the surface of the block.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Start the vehicle and test for leaks.
