Removal Procedure

The replacement vehicle theft deterrent (VTD) modules are manufactured to be able to learn the FIRST key that is used to start the vehicle. When learning the first key, simply insert the ignition key and turn the ignition ON. All other spare keys will need to be programmed to function with the replacement VTD module. Refer to Adding Keys .

  1. Remove the driver side sound insulators. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the theft deterrent control module (2).
  3. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to carefully remove the module (2) from the steering column support (4).

Installation Procedure

  1. Peel off one side of the adhesive patch backing (3). Attach the adhesive patch to the larger surface area on the side opposite the part number label on the theft deterrent control module (2).
  2. Connect electrical connector (1) to the module (2).
  3. Peel off the remaining adhesive patch backing. Attach the module (2) to the steering column support (4) with the electrical connector facing downward in car.
  4. Install the driver side sound insulators. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  5. Program the theft deterrent system. Refer to Programming Theft Deterrent System Components .
