Radiator Surge Tank Replacement LA1

Tools Required

J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .



2. Use theJ 38185 in order to reposition the hose clamps on top of the surge tank.
3. Disconnect the coolant hoses on top of the surge tank.
4. Remove the radiator surge tank bolt.



5. Use theJ 38185 in order to repositon hose clamp on the coolant return hose.
6. Disconnect the coolant return hose.



7. Disconnect the low coolant switch connector from the surge tank.
8. Remove surge tank.

1. Position surge tank in the vehicle.



2. Connect the low coolant switch connector to the surge tank.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

3. Install the surge tank bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).




4. Connect the coolant return hose.
5. Use theJ 38185 in order to reposition clamp to secure coolant return hose.



6. Connect the coolant hoses to the radiator surge tank.
7. Use theJ 38185 in order to reposition hose clamps to secure coolant hoses to surge tank.
8. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .

Radiator Surge Tank Replacement L61

Tools Required

J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
3. Lower the vehicle.



4. Disconnect the low coolant sensor electrical connector.
5. Remove the low coolant sensor electrical harness from the retainer.



6. Use the J 38185 in order to reposition the surge tank outlet hose clamp from the surge tank .
7. Remove the surge tank outlet hose from the surge tank (2).
8. Use the J 38185 in order to reposition the engine vent hose clamp from the surge tank .
9. Remove the engine vent hose from the surge tank (4).
10. Use the J 38185 in order to reposition the radiator vent hose clamp from the surge tank .
11. Remove the radiator vent hose from the surge tank (3).
12. Remove the radiator surge tank mounting bolt.
13. Remove the surge tank.

1. Install the surge tank.

2. Install the surge tank mounting bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).




3. Install the radiator vent hose to the surge tank (3).
4. Use the J 38185 in order to reposition the radiator vent hose clamp to the surge tank.
5. Install the engine vent hose to the surge tank (4).
6. Use the J 38185 in order to reposition the engine vent hose clamp to the surge tank.
7. Install the surge tank outlet hose to the surge tank (2).
8. Use the J 38185 in order to reposition the surge tank outlet hose clamp to the surge tank.



9. Install the low coolant sensor electrical connector to the retainer.
10. Connect the low coolant electrical connector.
11. Fill the cooling system at the radiator surge tank. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
