Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement DiscBrakes

Tools Required

J 37043 Parking Brake Cable Release Tool

1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. Disconnect the rear brake cable at the equalizer (3).
3. Using theJ 37043 remove the cable from the mounting bracket (2).



4. Remove the parking brake cable retaining clip (1).
5. Disconnect the cable (2) from the actuator lever.
6. Remove the parking brake cable from the vehicle.

1. Place the cable in position.
2. Install the cable on the actuator lever.
3. Install the parking brake cable retaining clip (1).



4. Install the cable to the cross member.
5. Connect the rear brake cable at the equalizer (3).
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Adjust the parking brake. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .

Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement Drum Brakes

Tools Required

J 37043 Parking Brake Cable Release Tool

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. Remove the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement in Drum Brakes.
3. Disconnect the cable from the park brake lever. Refer to Parking Brake Front Cable Replacement .
4. Remove the cable from the backing plate using the J 37043 .
5. Disconnect the left rear park brake cable (1) from the equalizer (2) and connector.



6. Disconnect the cable (3) from the bracket (4) using the J 37043 .

Notice: Parking brake adjustment is not necessary. This is a self adjusting system and damage may result from attempting to adjust or modify this system in any way. It may be necessary to adjust the rear brakes to obtain the proper tension in the system.

1. Connect the cable (1) to the equalizer (2) and connector.



2. Connect the cables (3) to the bracket (4).
3. Connect the cable to the backing plate.
4. Connect the cable to the park brake lever. Refer to Parking Brake Front Cable Replacement .
5. Install the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement in Drum Brakes.
6. Lower the vehicle.
