THE LIFE OF THE BRISTOL TOOL FOR REMOVING CAM PINS FROM THE INJECTION PUMP CAN BE EXTENDED BY GRINDING A 60F CHAMFER ON THE END OF THE TOOL. THIS DRIVE SHAFT SEAL INSTALLATION TOOL SHOULD BE POLISHED THE LENGTH OF THE TOOL TO REMOVE ANY ROUGHNESS WHICH WILL IMPROVE THE INSTALLATION OF THE SEALS. THE 1981 INJECTION PUMP DRIVE SHAFT IS HELD IN PLACE WITH AN "O" RING ON THE SHAFT. IT IS DIFFICULT TO REMOVE IF PULLED STRAIGHT OUT. DO NOT TURN THE SHAFT, BUT MOVE THE SHAFT IN A ROTARY MOTION WHILE PULLING ON IT. IT WILL THEN COME OUT EASIER.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
