Some 1982 Grand Prix and Bonnevilles equipped with the 6-way power seat option have experienced torn seat cushion trim caused by the top edge of the seat switch support plate. Should this condition occur, it will be necessary to rework the seat switch support plate before the seat cushion trim is replaced (see illustration).
1. Remove seat switch escutcheon; two (2) screws.
2. Disengage power seat connector.
3. Remove two (2) 7mm support plate attaching bolts.
4. Place support plate in vise and roll edge downward (see Figure 1).
5. Tape all edges of support plate with cloth- backed body tape.
6. Install switch support plate.
7. Engage power seat connector.
8. Install seat switch escutcheon.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
