Some 1989 Pontiac Grand Prix Turbo vehicles equipped with the head-up display (HUD) option may exhibit an unusually long bulb test for the low fuel indicator in the HUD display image, with the indicator flickering before finally going out. This symptom can best be described as follows:
Low fuel indicator remains on for 60 to 90 seconds and flickers for 5 to 10 seconds before going off
Follow the functional test chart on page 9M-3 of the 1989 Pontiac Grand Prix Turbo Service Manual Supplement to be certain no other symptoms are present. If the only symptom is related to the low fuel indicator as described above, remove the instrument cluster for repair by the most convenient AC Delco Exchange Center.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
