---------- Ignition noise may be present in the front speakers. it may also be present in door speakers on vehicles with six-speaker systems. The noise may be in either one or both front speakers.
----- The speaker wires are routed in the main IP harness, very close to the wiring to the Direct Ignition System (DIS). The voltage spikes on this line can cause ignition noise.
---------- 1. Locate the affected speaker or speakers by using the "Balance" controls on the radio.
2. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove the radio.
3. Cut the wires to the affected speaker, and run new wires from the speaker connector to the radio connector, making sure the new wires are routed away from the main harness. The old wires need not be removed, but make sure they are taped in place to avoid rattles.
4. Reinstall radio. Reconnect negative battery cable. Perform MEMCAL relearn procedure as follows:
a. Place A/C controls (if equipped) in the "off" position.
b. Firmly apply the parking brake and block the drive wheels. Start the engine, and shift the transaxle to "drive" for automatics or "neutral" for manuals.
c. Allow the engine to run until the engine cooling fan has cycled once, or a maximum of 10 minutes.
d. Turn the ignition key to the "off" position for a least 5 seconds.
e. Start the engine, and shift the transaxle to "drive" for automatics or "neutral" for manuals.
f. Allow engine to run for at least 5 minutes.
