Owners of a few 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix sedans with the power locks may comment they can not unlock the front doors.
This may be caused by a trim screw used to retain the door armrest which is too long and contacts the lock actuator preventing it from unlocking.
The screw is located below and towards the rear of the door trim armrest. (See Illustration)
1. Remove screw and actuate the lock and unlock switch to ensure proper operation of the system.
2. Add shims (flat washers) to screw (approximately 1/4") before reinstalling.
3. After screw has been reinstalled, check operation of power lock system.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
