Condition: Malfunction of rear wheel ABS Speed Sensor on some 1989-90 Grand Prix models. ABS dash light comes on, ABS Diagnostics points to the rear sensor. If the ABS light is on, only the anti-lock feature is in- operative. The normal brake system is still 100% functional.
Cause: The malfunction may be caused by water intrusion past the seal on the ABS Sensor.
Correction: The ABS Sensor is not serviced separately, replace the rear wheel bearing assemblies with P/N 7466987 bearings.
Part is currently available from GMSPO.
If a vehicle encounters this condition, both rear wheel bearing assemblies should be replaced.
Bearings with an improved seal entered production with the VIN lG2WT54T7LF260940.
