Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

1. Remove the front end sheet metal diagonal brace. Refer to Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement in Body Front End.
2. Remove the washer solvent container assembly. Refer to Windshield Washer Solvent Container Replacement in Wipers/Washer Systems.
3. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .



4. Disconnect the battery (positive) cable with the battery (positive) terminal bolt from the battery.
5. Remove the battery hold-down retainer. Refer to Battery Hold Down Retainer Replacement .
6. Place the underhood accessory wiring junction block aside on the 3800 L36 (VIN K) or the 3800 L67 (VIN 1) for access to the battery. Refer to Underhood Accessory Wiring Junction Block in Body Front End.

Important: Do not tip the battery more than 40 degrees during removal.

7. Remove the battery.

8. Remove the battery insulator from the battery.

Important: Do not tip the battery more than 40 degrees during battery insulator installation.

1. Install the battery insulator to the battery.

2. Place the battery on the battery tray bracket.
3. Install the battery hold-down retainer. Refer to Battery Hold Down Retainer Replacement .
4. Install the underhood accessory wiring junction block to the shock tower on the 3800 L36 (VIN K) or the 3800 L67 (VIN 1). Refer to Underhood Accessory Wiring Junction Block in Body Front End.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

5. Connect the battery (positive) cable with the battery (positive) terminal bolt to the battery.

Tighten
Tighten the battery (positive) terminal bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

6. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
7. Install the washer solvent container assembly. Refer to Windshield Washer Solvent Container Replacement in Wipers/Washer Systems.
8. Install the front end sheet metal diagonal brace. Refer to Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement in Body Front End.
