Exhaust Crossover Pipe Replacement 3.1L
Removal Procedure
- Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in Engine Electrical.
- Remove the throttle body air inlet duct. Refer to
Throttle Body Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls-3.1L.
- Remove the vacuum modulator pipe. Refer to
Vacuum Modulator Pipe Replacement
in Automatic Transaxle --
4T60-E.
- Remove the exhaust crossover
pipe heat shield bolts.
- Remove the exhaust crossover heat shield.
- Remove the exhaust crossover
pipe bolts.
- Remove the exhaust crossover pipe.
Installation Procedure
- Install the exhaust crossover
pipe.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the exhaust
crossover pipe bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the exhaust crossover pipe bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Install the exhaust crossover
heat shield.
- Install the exhaust crossover pipe heat shield bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the exhaust crossover pipe heat shield bolts to 10 N·m
(89 lb in).
- Install the vacuum modulator pipe. Refer to
Vacuum Modulator Pipe Replacement
in Automatic Transaxle --
4T60-E.
- Install the throttle body air inlet duct. Refer to
Throttle Body Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls-3.1L.
- Connect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in Engine Electrical.
Exhaust Crossover Pipe Replacement 3.8L
Removal Procedure
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in Engine Electrical.
- Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to
Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement
in
Engine Mechanical-3.8L.
- Remove the throttle body air inlet duct. Refer to
Throttle Body Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls-3.8L.
- Remove the exhaust crossover
heat shield nuts.
- Remove the exhaust crossover heat shield.
- Remove the exhaust crossover
pipe bolts.
- Remove the exhaust crossover pipe.
- Remove the exhaust crossover pipe seal.
Installation Procedure
- Install the exhaust crossover
pipe seal to the exhaust crossover pipe at the right (rear) exhaust manifold
connection.
- Install the exhaust crossover pipe.

Tighten
Tighten the exhaust crossover pipe bolts to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
- Install the exhaust crossover
heat shield.
- Install the exhaust crossover heat shield nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the exhaust crossover heat shield nuts to 20 N·m
(15 lb ft).
- Install the throttle body air inlet duct. Refer to
Throttle Body Assembly Replacement
in Engine Controls-3.8L.
- Install the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to
Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement
in
Engine Mechanical-3.8L.
- Connect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in Engine
Electrical.
