Exhaust Pipe Replacement Dual Exhaust System

1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

Notice: To prevent internal damage to the flexible coupling of the catalytic converter assembly, the converter must be supported. The vertical movement at the rear of the catalytic converter assembly must not exceed 6 degrees up or down.

2. Support the following components:

•	Exhaust muffler

•	Exhaust pipe

•	Three way catalytic converter




3. Disconnect the insulators from the exhaust pipe.




Important: The cut must be made approximately 38 mm (1.5 in) from the mufflers to ensure adequate overlap for clamping.

4. Cut the exhaust pipe from the exhaust mufflers.



5. Remove the catalytic converter bolts from the three way catalytic converter.
6. Remove the exhaust pipe from the vehicle.

1. Position the new exhaust pipe under the vehicle and support the pipe.
2. Install the insulators to the exhaust pipe.



3. Install a new catalytic converter gasket.
4. Install the catalytic converter bolts. Do not tighten the catalytic converter bolts.



5. Install the exhaust muffler inlet pipe clamps. Do not tighten the exhaust muffler inlet pipe clamp nuts.
6. Install the exhaust pipe to the mufflers.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

7. Tighten the exhaust muffler inlet pipe clamp nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the exhaust muffler inlet pipe clamp nuts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).




8. Tighten the catalytic converter bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the catalytic converter bolts to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

9. Lower the vehicle.
