Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 36660-A Torque Angle Meter


    Object Number: 156949  Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
  2. Remove the tires and wheels. Refer to Wheel Removal
  3. Scribe the strut to the knuckle.
  4. Disconnect the rear wheel spindle rods from the knuckle.
  5. Remove the brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement
  6. Remove the brake caliper bracket. Refer to Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement
  7. Remove the rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement
  8. Disconnect the ABS electrical connector. Refer to Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement
  9. Remove the rear wheel hub. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement
  10. Disconnect the rear wheel spindle rods from the knuckle. Refer to Spindle Rod Replacement and Spindle Rod Replacement
  11. Disconnect the trailing arm (1) from the knuckle. Refer to Trailing Arm Replacement
  12. Remove the rear suspension strut nuts.
  13. Remove the rear suspension strut to knuckle bolts.
  14. Remove the rear suspension knuckle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the rear suspension knuckle.
  2. Hand start the rear suspension strut to knuckle bolts. Do not tighten the nuts at this time.
  3. Connect the rear wheel spindle rods to the knuckle. Refer to Spindle Rod Replacement and Spindle Rod Replacement
  4. Connect the rear suspension trailing arm (1) to the knuckle. Refer to Trailing Arm Replacement
  5. Install the rear wheel hub. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement
  6. Connect the ABS electrical connector. Refer to Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement
  7. Install the brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement
  8. Install the brake caliper bracket. Refer to Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement
  9. Install the brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement
  10. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  11. Now tighten the strut to knuckle bolts.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the strut to knuckle bolts to 112 N·m (82 lb ft).

  13. Install the tires and wheels. Refer to Wheel Removal
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Check the wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Measurement
