Action

The power steering pressure hose is grounding out.

Inspect the power steering pressure hose. Verify that the following conditions exist:

    • The mounting is correct.
    • The clearance is correct.

Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement or Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement .

The rack bearing preload is misadjusted.

Adjust to specifications.

Refer to Rack Bearing Preload Adjustment - Off Vehicle (Magnasteer) or Rack Bearing Preload Adjustment - Off Vehicle (Quiet Valve).

The power steering gear is loose.

Tighten the power steering gear mounting bolts to specification.

Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .

The tie rod ends are loose.

Inspect the tie rod ends, replace as necessary. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .

The intermediate shaft universal joints are loose.

Inspect the intermediate shaft universal joints, replace as necessary. Refer to Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, Jacket- Disassemble (Floor Shift) or Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, Jacket- Disassemble (Column Shift) or Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
