Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the linear
shift assembly and secure using 3 flat head 6 lobed socket tap
screws.

lock cable assembly with J 41396
. |
- Inspect the park lock cable assembly.
4.1. | Put the lock cylinder in the off-lock position. The shift lever
clevis should not be able to shift out of the park position. |
4.2. | Turn the key to the run position and put the shift lever clevis
in the neutral position. |
4.3. | With the shift lever clevis in the neutral position the lock cylinder
should not be able to go into the off-lock position. |
4.4. | Put the shift lever clevis into the park position. |
4.5. | Put the lock cylinder in the off-lock position and then remove
the key. |
- Install the electrical
BTSI actuator.
Install the shift lever clevis and put the column in the neutral position.
- Adjust the electrical
BTSI actuator.
6.1. | Pull the tab (1) out on the adjuster block side (2)
of the electrical BTSI actuator. |
6.2. | Press on the adjuster block (2) to compress the internal
adjuster spring to disengage the adjuster teeth. Slide the adjuster block (2)
as far away from the solenoid as possible. |
6.3. | Lock in place by pushing the tab (1) back in. |
- Inspect the electrical BTSI actuator.
7.1. | The electrical BTSI actuator must lock the shift lever clevis
when it is put into the park position. |
7.2. | When the column is installed in the vehicle you will not be able
