Has the vehicle been checked for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)?

Go to Step 2

Go to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check in Engine Controls - 3.1L or Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check in Engine Controls - 3.8L.

  1. Disconnect the engine oil level sensor.
  2. Start the engine.

Does the low oil level indicator light?

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 4

  1. Replace the engine oil level sensor.
  2. Inspect the system.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

--

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the powertrain control module (PCM) connector C2.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  4. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper between the PCM connector C2 terminal 6 and ground.

Does the low oil level indicator light?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Inspect for a short to ground in CKT 1174.

Is there a short to ground in CKT 1174?

Go to Step 6

  1. Repair a short to ground in CKT 1174.
  2. Inspect the system.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

  1. Replace the PCM. Refer to Powertrain Control Module Replacement/Programming in Engine Controls - 3.1L or Powertrain Control Module Replacement/Programming in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
  2. Inspect the system.

  • Inspect for a poor connection or an open in CKT 1173.

Is there a poor connection or an open in CKT 1173?

Go to Step 9

  1. Repair the poor connection or the open in CKT 1173.
  2. Inspect the system.

  1. Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  2. Inspect the system.
