Removal Procedure
- Verify that the lever is in the center of the OFF position.
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
- Disable the SIR. Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
in SIR.
- Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to
Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement
.
- Remove the steering wheel. Refer to
Steering Wheel Replacement
.
- Remove the bolts from the lower column cover.
- Tilt the cover down and slide the cover back in order to disengage
the locking tabs.
- Remove the lower column cover.
- Remove the bolts from the upper column cover.
- Remove the wire harness strap.
- Remove the two wire harness straps from the steering column wire
harness.

- Remove the bolts from the multifunction switch.
- Remove the turn signal and multifunction switch.
Installation Procedure
- Install the turn signal and multifunction switch. Use a small,
flat blade in order to compress the electrical contact and move the turn signal
and multifunction switch into position.
- Verify that the electrical contact rests on the canceling cam.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the bolts to the turn signal and multifunction switch.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).
- Connect the gray and black connectors of the switch to the column
bulkhead connector.
- Connect the steering column bulkhead connector to the vehicle
wire harness.
- Install the two wire harness straps to the steering column wire
harness.
