Important: For optimal instrument cluster performance, use an instrument cluster
HUD specific windshield.
The instrument cluster head-up display (HUD) system projects the frequently
used driver information near the front of the vehicle as viewed from the driver's
seat. The instrument cluster HUD system displays the following information
during vehicle operation:
• | The digital speedometer operating in MPH or km/h |
• | The check gauge indicator |
• | The radio receiver information |
The instrument cluster HUD system consists of the following components:
• | The instrument cluster HUD specific windshield |
• | The instrument cluster HUD |
• | The instrument cluster HUD dimmer switch. |
The instrument cluster HUD and the instrument cluster HUD dimmer switch
are both connected to the instrument panel wiring harness.
The instrument cluster HUD dimmer switch performs the following functions:
• | Provides power to the instrument cluster HUD |
• | Varies the intensity of the display image |
• | Controls the motor driven mirror |
• | Varies the height of the display image |
The instrument cluster HUD dimmer switch is back lit. The dimmer control
on the headlight switch controls the intensity of the back lighting. The headlight
switch and the instrument cluster HUD control the night brightness of the
display image. The instrument cluster HUD will dim when the headlight switch
is in the PARK position or the HEAD position.
The instrument cluster HUD performs a self test upon the initial activation.
If the instrument cluster HUD dimmer switch in ON when the ignition switch
is turned to the RUN position, the HUD will project the following displays
for 3.5 seconds:
• | The high beam indicator |
• | The check gauge indicator |
• | All of the segments of the digital speedometer |
• | All of the segments of the digital |
After the displays are projected for 3.5 seconds, the instrument
cluster HUD will begin normal operation.
The instrument cluster HUD performs a self test when the instrument
cluster HUD dimmer switch is moved out of the OFF position after the ignition
switch is turned to the RUN position.
