Body Control Module

The body control module (BCM) controls the door locking and the interior lighting portions of the keyless entry system. On vehicles equipped with the content theft deterrent system (RPO UA6), the BCM also controls the remote alarm. One of the following 3 BCM types is installed on this vehicle based on vehicle equipment:

    • BCM type 2 provides the following features:
       - Interior illumination control
       - Inadvertent load (battery rundown) protection
       - Chime functions
       - Retained accessory power (RAP)
       - Automatic power door locks
    • BCM type 3 provides the following features:
       - BCM type 2 features
       - Keyless entry system (RPO AUO)
    • BCM type 4 provides the following features:
       - BCM type 2 features
       - BCM type 3 features
       - Content theft deterrent system (RPO UA6) with remote activation verification and remote alarm

For more information regarding the BCM, refer to Body Control System Description in Body Control Systems.

Keyless Entry Functions

  1. In the remote driver door unlock function, the driver's door unlocks when pressing the UNLOCK button on the keyless entry transmitter.
  2. In the remote all door unlock function, all doors unlock when pressing the UNLOCK button twice or more on the keyless entry transmitter.
  3. In the remote all door lock function, all doors lock when pressing the LOCK button on the keyless entry transmitter.
  4. In the rear compartment lid release function, the rear compartment lid opens when pressing the rear compartment button on the keyless entry transmitter.

Vehicles equipped with the content theft deterrent system (RPO UA6) have the following additional features:

    • In the remote activation verification feature, the headlamps flash and/or the horn sounds when using the keyless entry transmitter. Refer to Remote Unlock Control Customization in Body Control Systems.
    • In the remote alarm feature, the headlamps flash and the horn sounds alternately for 2 minutes when pressing the alarm button on the keyless entry transmitter. Pressing the alarm button again within 2 minutes stops the remote alarm.

Remote Driver Door Unlock

Enabling the remote driver door unlock feature (mode 2) through feature customization causes the RCDLR to send a message to the BCM through CKT 377. This unlocks the driver's door upon pressing the UNLOCK button once on the keyless entry transmitter.

Disabling the remote driver door unlock feature (mode 1) through feature customization causes the RCDLR to send a message to the BCM through CKT 377. This unlocks all the doors upon pressing the UNLOCK button once on the keyless entry transmitter.

Refer to Remote Unlock Control Customization in Body Control Systems.

Remote All Door Unlock

Disabling the remote driver door unlock feature (mode 1) through feature customization causes the RCDLR to send a message to the BCM through CKT 377. This unlocks all the doors upon pressing the UNLOCK button once on the keyless entry transmitter.

Enabling the remote driver door unlock feature (mode 2) through feature customization causes the RCDLR to send a message to the BCM through CKT 377. This unlocks all the doors upon pressing the UNLOCK button twice on the keyless entry transmitter. There should be no more than 5 seconds between presses.

Refer to Remote Unlock Control Customization in Body Control Systems.

Remote All Door Lock

The RCDLR sends a message to the BCM through CKT 377. This locks all the doors while pressing the LOCK button once on the keyless entry transmitter. However, the automatic door locks control the door locking in the following manner:

    • The BCM will not lock the doors when the lockout prevention feature is active.
    • The BCM delays door locking when the last door closed locking feature is active. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Body Control System in Body Control System.

Remote Alarm

Vehicles equipped with the content theft deterrent system (RPO UA6) have a remote alarm feature. When pressing the alarm button on the keyless entry transmitter, the RCDLR sends a message to the BCM through CKT 377 in order to flash the headlamps and sound the horn alternately for 2 minutes. Press the alarm button again in order to stop the alarm. Refer to Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) System Check in Theft Deterrent.

Rear Compartment Lid Release

Pressing the rear compartment button on the keyless entry transmitter causes the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) to ground CKT 253. This action energizes the rear compartment lid release relay, thus applying voltage in CKT 275. The rear compartment lid lock release actuator energizes, releasing the rear compartment lid.

If the transaxle is shifted out of PARK, the voltage supply to the rear compartment lid release relay is interrupted. This action disables the rear compartment lid release feature.

Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)

The remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) sends door locking command (and remote alarm command, if equipped) messages to the body control module (BCM) through the RFA link. The BCM sets DTC 8 if the RFA link CKT 377 is shorted to B+ or ground. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Body Control System in Body Control System.

Courtesy Lights Activation

The BCM turns on the courtesy lights when unlocking the doors using the keyless entry transmitter. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Lighting Systems Lighting Systems.
