Important: Use the J 35616 Connector Test Adapter Kit when a diagnostic procedure requires inspecting or probing.

Use of the adapter prevents damage to the terminal. Use of the adapter also indicates if the contact tension is sufficient. If the contact tension seems incorrect, refer to Checking Terminal Contact.

Inspect the vehicle for the UA6 theft deterrent option.

Inspect the vehicle for body control module (BCM) diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

Are there any DTCs present?

  1. Remove the horn relay.
  2. Connect a test lamp.
  3. Frontprobe between one of the horn relay 740 CKTs and ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

--

  1. Connect a test lamp.
  2. Frontprobe between the other horn relay CKT 740 ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Replace the underhood accessory wiring junction block.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Connect a test lamp.
  2. Frontprobe between the horn relay terminals CKT 740 and CKT 28.
  3. Press the horn switch while observing the lamp.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Momentarily connect a 5A fused jumper between the horn relay terminals CKT 29 and CKT 740.

Do the horns sound?

  1. Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System .
  2. Remove the horn switch from the steering wheel.
  3. Leave the test lamp connected between the horn relay terminals CKT  28 and CKT 740.
  4. Connect a 5A fused jumper from the ground to the spring loaded terminal leading towards the accessory wiring junction block.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Inspect for a poor connection at the switch ground in the steering wheel.

Is there a poor connection?

Repair a short to B+ or an open in CKT 28 between the accessory wiring junction block and the horn switch.

Repair the poor connection at the switch ground.

Replace the horn switch. Refer to Horn Replacement .

Replace the horn relay. Refer to Horn Relay Replacement .

  1. Place the horn relay back in the accessory wiring junction block.
  2. Disconnect the horn assembly connector.
  3. Connect a test lamp.
  4. Frontprobe between the horn connector terminal B and ground.
  5. Press the horn switch while observing the test lamp.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Connect a test lamp.
  2. Frontprobe between the horn assembly connector terminal A and B+.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  2. Backprobe the accessory wiring junction block connector C3 terminal B7 and ground.
  3. Press the horn switch while observing the test lamp.

Repair the open in CKT 1350 between the horn assembly connector C3 terminal A and G101.
