Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery cable.
- Remove the front impact bar. Refer to
Front Bumper Impact Bar Replacement
in Bumpers.
- Remove the frame bolt
from the frame crossmember nut (1).
Important: Do not damage the frame crossmember nut retainer, as the retainer will
be reused.
- Use an air chisel in order to break away the spot welds (3) on
one side of the frame crossmember nut retainer.
- Lift one side of the frame crossmember nut retainer in order to
allow for the removal of the frame crossmember nut (1).
- Remove the frame crossmember nut (1).
Installation Procedure
- Install the frame crossmember
nut (1).
- Install the lower frame crossmember nut retainer into place in
order to ensure the following conditions:
• | Proper placement of the frame crossmember nut (1) |
• | Working condition of the frame crossmember nut (1) |
- Install the spot weld frame (3) crossmember nut retainer
in the original location.
- Clean and prepare the welded surfaces.
- Apply corrosion protection.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the new
frame bolt to the frame crossmember nut (1).
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 180 N·m (133 lb ft).
- Use a pressure pot in order to apply anti-corrosion compound GM P/N 12346225
or the equivalent. Thoroughly coat the inside of the repair area through
any access hole.
- Install the front impact bar. Refer to
Front Bumper Impact Bar Replacement
in Bumpers.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
